أعلنت المحكمة الدولية الخاصة بلبنان في سلسلة تغريدات على حسابها عبر "تويتر" أنها " تواجه أزمة مالية"، مشددة على أن "بدون تمويل فوري ، لن تكون قادرة على العمل بعد تموز 2021 ، مما يؤثر على قدرتها على الوفاء بولايتها واختتام قضية عياش وآخرون".
The STL regrets to announce that it is facing an unprecedented financial crisis. Without immediate funding, it will not be able to operate beyond July 2021, impacting its ability to fulfill its mandate & concluding the Ayyash et al. case (STL-11-01) & the Ayyash case (STL-18-10).

وقال رئيس قلم المحكمة دايفيد تولبرت أنه "ليس لديه خيار سوى تفعيل عملية فصل الموظفين وفقًا لنظام ولوائح الموظفين وبدء أنشطة السحب المتعلقة بحماية الشهود وتأمين سجلات المحكمة والأدلة والمواد الحساسة".

The Registrar stated that he has no choice but to activate a process of separation of staff in accordance with the Staff Regulations & Rules & to initiate draw down activities related to the protection of witnesses & securing the Tribunal’s records, evidence & sensitive material.

وتابعت, "على الرغم من إجراء تخفيضات كبيرة في عدد الموظفين وتخفيضات عامة ، بدون تمويل إضافي ، ستضطر المحكمة الخاصة بلبنان إلى إغلاق أبوابها [...] تاركًة قضايا مهمة غير منتهية على حساب الضحايا ومكافحة الإفلات من العقاب وسيادة القانون".
"Despite taking significant cuts of staff & across the board reductions, without additional funding, STL will be forced to close its doors [...] leaving important cases unfinished to the detriment of victims, the fight against impunity & the rule of law" stated Registrar Tolbert.
