On Tuesday, MP and member of the “Strong Lebanon” bloc Alain Aoun stated that “no one expects any developments from Le Drian’s visit. The data is unchanged; nothing new was proposed to break the wall. All previous attempts, including those of the Quintet, remain at a standstill.”
In his talk with Lebanon Debate, Aoun suggested that “Le Drian’s visit was within the context of reaffirming the role and interest of France in Lebanon and the assessment of how things have become.”
He believes that “the problem is the multiple mediations taking place. This international competition reflects their interest in Lebanon.”
The MP added that “the unavailable conditions and elements for a settlement remain a problem. It has become inevitably linked to the major settlement because of the nature of the relations and the equations that will follow the end of the Gaza war will undoubtedly affect Lebanon and many of its pillars."
