“Lebanon Debate”
In an interview with Lebanon Debate, the Minister of the Displaced, Issam Sharafeddine, revealed on the sidelines of the cabinet session that “they have been presented with a plan on the return of the displaced, but they have not studied it yet, so he cannot currently evaluate it or comment on it."
He reaffirms that any "plan to return the displaced will encounter a significant obstacle posed by other countries, namely the siege on Syria," stressing that "the priority today is to lift the siege in any project to return the displaced.” The minister criticized the EU countries that consider themselves guardians of Lebanon."
He pointed out that "the EU High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy addressed this issue. He stated that the displaced must be kept in Lebanon and that the security situation in Syria has not yet improved." This makes one wonder: "Who is Borrell to assess the situation in Lebanon and Syria?"
Regarding his visit to Syria, he stressed that "he will be part of a ministerial committee if it is formed to go to Syria to coordinate the return of the displaced. He is also among the bodies that coordinate the return convoys," pointing to "a proposal discussing the organization of sea convoys for their deportation."
