During the meeting of the Kataeb Party’s political bureau, its president and MP Sami Gemayel deliberated on developments regarding the region and the presidential file in Lebanon. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the bureau expressed its view: "The Political Bureau considers that the ongoing mortgage of the fate of the Lebanese in the absurd war of occupation waged by Hezbollah under the pretext of protecting Lebanon has not only caused woes and devastation to the people of the south but has also entrenched the country in an increasingly fierce and likely protracted war.”

The statement further asserted, "The Political Bureau holds Hezbollah responsible for dragging fire into the country. It holds it accountable for pawning the country to serve Iran's agenda, especially at this crucial juncture in the region. In such dangerous moments, Lebanon is supposed to be fortified as a full-fledged state and with institutions ready to protect it upcoming storms."

The statement continued, "The Kataebi political bureau puts Hezbollah and its team, with the arrival of the French envoy to Lebanon, responsible of meeting the Lebanese halfway down the road, waiving its intransigence and releasing the presidential file immediately. Hezbollah should do so either by endorsing a consensus figure or by agreeing to successive sessions leading to the election of a president of the republic who takes it upon himself to protect the country."

It additionally emphasized, "The Political Bureau strongly condemns the persistent criminality seen in the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. It believes that it is the women and children who are paying the price of this relentless war, losing their shelter and loved ones in the process."

The statement affirms that "the political bureau deems the containment of extremism and extremists from all factions as the sole viable solution. This should be achieved with a fair and comprehensive solution aiming at establishing an independent and viable Palestinian state, acknowledged both regionally and globally, as well as paving the way for lasting peace in the region.”

It explained that "the Bureau followed up on the outcomes of the Brussels conference with regard to Syrian migrants and was taken aback by the words of the EU's Foreign-Policy Chief, Josep Borrell. His repeated and unproductive stances without proposing solutions that respect the point of view of the host parties were surprising.”

The statement concluded: "The Kataeb party’s political bureau calls for the application of the Lebanese laws in force regarding the Syrian presence in Lebanon without any hesitation. There is no need to enact new laws; it is a useless comedy, especially after the unanimous national consensus on the need to relieve the Lebanese people of the burdens associated with this file; burdens they shouldered longer than they should."
