“Lebanon Debate”
Imad Tawil, the head police officer in Batroun, asserted in a recent interview with "Lebanon Debate" that electric bikes, despite being noiseless, are merely simulations of traditional motorcycles and are equally dangerous.
He stressed that electric bikes have been responsible for daily incidents in Batroun, as they often appear suddenly in front of cars without warning.
Tawil emphasized the necessity of taking measures to address this issue.
He also added: “With the start of summer, and since Batroun is one of the most visited cities by Lebanese, Arabs and foreigners, residents or expats, Batroun municipality put in place some measures to prevent the rent of electric and motorcycles bikes to perverse the comfort of citizens and tourists, in addition to maintaining peace and public interest in the region.”
All of these measures were taken based on the decision of the north Lebanon governor judge Ramzi Nohra.
Tawil added: “It is true that electric bikes kept the Batroun souks rather active, but their movement was chaotic. We received many complaints from visitors due to these bikes.”
When asked about golf cars, the police officer confirmed: “The municipality banned the renting of golf cars without prior approval. This restriction aims to regulate their entry into certain areas within the souks, ensuring a pleasant experience for tourists visiting historical and touristic sites."
Similar measures will be applied to "touk touk" vehicles.
In conclusion, Tawil highlighted that the touristic season in Batroun will not suffer due to these measures, on the contrary these measures will preserve the environment of joy, stability and calmness.
