"Lebanon debate"
Recent military operations on the southern front have intensified dramatically in the past few days, prompting questions about future scenarios.
Despite the heightened confrontations, retired General Amine Hatit has ruled out the possibility of a full-scale war between Hezbollah and Israel. He stated: "Upon close examination, the current escalation appears to be met with counter-escalation within the boundaries set for managing Hezbollah's support operations."
In an interview with "Lebanon Debate," Hatit noted that despite severe confrontations, neither side seems inclined toward all-out war at this point. However, he acknowledged the need to consider all possibilities, including full-scale war, though he believes this possibility remains remote due to Israel's military, strategic, and international constraints.
Hatit emphasized that Hezbollah currently has no interest in escalating to a full-scale war, especially since it is achieving some strategic goals under the current circumstances, thereby avoiding the need to expand confrontations. Consequently, it does not appear that either side is actively seeking an all-out war.
The general pointed out that Israeli actions targeting civilians and Hezbollah leaders, along with extensive strikes in regions further from the borders, are attempts to provoke Hezbollah into violating the rules of engagement .
This, in turn, could provide Israel with justification to escalate to full-scale war and potentially involve the United States. Hezbollah is cautious, adhering to established standards to manage this conflict.
Hatit highlighted that the current rhythm of confrontations will continue to dominate the scene in Lebanon unless a mistake or uncalculated action occurs. Such incidents could inevitably suck the country into a full-scale war.
