Tarek Khalife, chairman of the board of directors of CreditBank, is subject to a subpoena issued by the Public Prosecutor of Cassation, Judge Jamal Al-Hajjar.
Khalifa is seeking to pressure Mohammed Baasiri, the bank's interim director, through press leaks that Baasiri is violating banking secrecy in an attempt to stop the judicial investigations against him, which may amount to money laundering.
Judge Al-Hajjar questioned Baasiri as a witness on Monday to investigate irregularities during Khalifa's tenure, much to Khalifa's dismay, who is trying in various ways to stop the investigations.
The Higher Banking Commission of the Banque du Liban had appointed Baassiri nearly two months ago as interim director of the Bank of Credit Bank, after deliberating the report of the Banking Control Commission, which contained serious violations amounting to suspicion of money laundering.
