“Lebanon Debate”
On Tuesday, the Head of the Pharmacists Syndicate, Joe Salloum, will hold a press conference in which he will address the threat and defamation campaign against him. This campaign started after the syndicate intervened in a case involving the falsification of expiry dates on children’s food supplements. Its ulterior motives go beyond the supplement issues, hinting at connections to the upcoming 2025 Maronite League elections.
Salloum confirmed to Lebanon Debate that “the purpose of the conference is to unveil the truth” following a concerning campaign targeting him. He stated that he would disclose all events from the moment the syndicate became involved in the expired supplements case.
He emphasized his intention to name those responsible for the campaign. He expressed his confidence saying, “Threats will not deter me, because children's health is non-negotiable.”
Regarding the threats and his candidacy for the Maronite League elections, Salloum openly stated that he is willing to step down from the presidency of the Maronite League or any other political position if it means protecting the health of children, cancer patients, and all patients in general.
The Head of the Pharmacist Syndicate emphasized that “the health of children and patients cannot be sacrificed for any political ambition or position.” He acknowledged that some might view holding the presidency of the Maronite League as submission or surrender, but for him, “It signifies genuine resistance and a commitment to national and humanitarian values.”
Salloum pointed out that the threats he faces are linked to the syndicate's decision to halt the distribution of the food supplements until the Ministry of Health issues a decision. However, he revealed that “this issue has been exploited to manipulate and influence the Maronite League election.”
