During his official visit to the Republic of China, Minister of Communications in the caretaker government, Johnny Corm, met with Chinese Vice Director of the International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA).
Several meetings were held in the presence of an accompanying delegation and officials from the regional office of the Chinese State Council, focusing on strengthening developmental cooperation in the communication sector between the two countries.
Regarding the visit, Minister Corm confirmed in an interview with “Lebanon Debate” that it was positive and successful, especially highlighting a meeting with CIDCA where an allocation of $40 million will be granted to Lebanon. This funding is intended for a specific project to be implemented by the end of this year.
Corm clarified that the agreement with CIDCA involves moving forward with a project currently being prepared by Ogero. He also mentioned meeting with Prime Minister Mikati, agreeing to set a deadline in collaboration with the Council for Development to present the agreed-upon project and secure the aid.
The minister announced plans to meet with President of the Council for development and reconstruction, Nabil Al-Jisr, emphasizing the need to present the project through the council, especially since Jisr will soon visit CIDCA.
Corm emphasized that the primary goal of the project is to enhance the communication sector, focusing not only on financial support but also on implementing Optical Line Terminal (OLT) and Long-Term Evolution (LTE) technologies, which are crucial for Lebanon. This initiative aligns with the Chinese donation of over $8 million aimed at installing solar panels in more than 380 Ogero center.
