“Lebanon Debate”
Acting Governor of the Lebanese Central Bank, Wassim Mansouri, departed Lebanon at dawn on a challenging mission to the US. His objective is to preempt for September, when Lebanon is expected to face evaluation by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
Financial sources told Lebanon Debate that Mansouri's visit to the US aims to prevent Lebanon from being gray-listed by the FATF.
Mansouri’s previous efforts succeeded twice. There are indications that he may succeed again this time, especially given that the Central Bank has fully met its required obligations.
Last month, Mansouri expressed concerns and pledged vigorous efforts to ensure Lebanon does not receive a negative rating.
He also raised the issue during the IMF's spring meeting with relevant parties to prevent Lebanon from being gray-listed, emphasizing the adverse impacts on the country's economy and financial stability.
