Controversy Over Resort Openings Amid Border Conflict

placeholder

“Lebanon Debate”

Despite the ongoing conflict on the southern border, some resort owners in areas relatively distant from the frontlines, yet occasionally affected by Israeli aggression, have announced the reopening of their resorts to visitors. This decision has sparked concern from the municipality of Jaba’ in the Tuffah province, citing risks to citizens' lives.

The municipality promptly notified resort owners that it does not assume responsibility for any consequences of Israeli attacks in the area. It emphasized its intention to prevent the reopening of resorts, particularly in Jabal Safi.

Mayor Abdallah Noureddine confirmed to Lebanon Debate that “resort owners in the Jabal Safi recently reopened their establishments. However, an Israeli strike in close proximity prompted the municipality to clarify our stance: we cannot accept endangering lives for economic gain.”

Regarding attempts by some owners to reopen, Noureddine asserted that the municipality will enforce restrictions. He emphasized that resorts in Jabal Safi cannot be operational under current circumstances due to existing dangers. However, he noted that resorts situated farther away in orchard areas have not closed, as they are relatively safe.

Noureddine stated that “resort owners were formally notified in writing of the prohibition on reopening and signed pledges agreeing not to defy these regulations. Yes, there is injustice. However, it stems from the enemy, who’s launching raids every now and then, not the municipality.
