PM Justin Trudeau convened the Incident Response Group with ministers and senior officials to discuss the evolving situation in the Middle East. The focus was on the risk of further escalation along Israel’s northern border, which Hezbollah continues to bombard with rockets. Prime Minister Trudeau emphasized the urgent need to avoid further escalation.
During the meeting, the PM and ministers reviewed the latest developments and ongoing efforts to support de-escalation. They also discussed Canada’s readiness to respond to potential scenarios, emphasizing the gravity of the situation, and urged Canadians to leave Lebanon promptly while commercial travel options remain available.
They cautioned that assisted departures or evacuations cannot be guaranteed if the situation worsens and stressed the importance of ensuring that Canadians' travel documents, including those of their spouses and dependent children, are always up to date and secure.
The Government reiterated through its official website its full engagement on these issues and commitment to the safety and security of Canadians in the region.
