On Friday, the caretaker Minister of National Defense, Maurice Sleem, considered that "the difficult circumstances that Lebanon are going through are a result of the constant Israeli aggression in the south of the country and Beqaa. We shall remain proud on the twenty-fourth anniversary of the liberation of the southern land that is dear to all our hearts. The achievement that took place in 2000 was not a mere event. It was a moment of glorious light in the history of Lebanon that gave sovereignty and prosperity back to its people. It proved to the cruel enemy that defending one’s land is and will remain the choice of the Lebanese government and is done through the resistance of its army and its sons, as well as the steadfast citizens who stayed in their cities and villages."
Salim saluted the memory of "the martyrs who fell and are still falling in the south, from citizens to military and resistance. He affirmed that in the face of the current attacks on our precious homeland and in order to protect every single inch of it, confrontation shall be through determination, will, and firm resolve. The liberation is complete when all these lands are recovered from Shebaa farms, Kfarshouba, the eastern part of the Ghajar village to the disputed occupied points at the internationally recognized land borders. This shall be achieved by all means available to the Lebanese government, which has confirmed and reasserted through its officials on every occasion that it is not a fan of war but rather an advocate of peace and will certainly not surrender or even accept that parts of its land remain occupied."
