The PM in the caretaker government Najib Mikati stated on Tuesday: “The region witnessed a lot of events in the recent period, namely the Arab summit that was convened in Bahrain, where everyone expressed their interest in Lebanon, in addition to the Bahrain statement that confirmed the Lebanese principles that we hold dearly. In all of the bilateral meeting that we attended we made sure to tackle the Lebanese file and to support it.”

During the cabinet session at the Grand Serail, Mikati added: “We are upholding this meeting today, one day after the representation of the FM, Abdallah Bou Habib, in the 8th conference on “Supporting the future of Syria and the region” in Brussels. For the first time, Lebanon presented a clear and determined plan to organize the displaced Syrian file in Lebanon. This plan was adopted, by the government and supported by the chamber of representative and is based on the cooperation of different ministries and the concerned authorities.”

He continued: “Through the many discussions that we constantly shared, Bou Habib confirmed that Lebanon requested the launch of an early recovery plan in Syria and to separate the Syrian displacement file from any political agendas in addition to finding safe regions to guarantee their return.”

“The FM also contacted many Arab ministers, whose countries have welcomed displaced Syrians, such as Jordan, Iraq, Egypt, Syria, and a united plan was reached to contact the Syrian authorities and to support the early recovery in Syria. He also highlighted the necessity of the aid and assistance to encourage the Syrians to return to their homeland.”

“During the conference, Bou Habib expressed Lebanon’s clear intention to help, and not clash, with the international organizations affiliated with the United Nations. The FM was capable of reaching an agreement with the UNHCR surrounding all the items and points that were mentioned, namely handing over all the data related to the displaced Syrians in the possession of the UNCHR.”

Mikati also declared: “The Israeli enemy is continuing its aggression on the south of Lebanon, claiming more lives and wounding many, as seen in the recent attack on the hospital in bent Jbeil. We condemn this cowardly attack and all of the occupation’s acts that will inevitably fail, as the people of the south will never leave their land, especially as we celebrated a few days ago the anniversary of the south's liberation from Israeli occupation. We salute all of those who contributed to this historic national accomplishment.”

The PM also mentioned that he expressed his gratitude to the Spanish and Norwegian PM for recognizing a Palestinian state and that he will be calling the Irish PM on Thursday to extend his gratitude. He also added that the decision of the ICJ favoring the halt of the Israeli military attack on Rafah is a step forward to stop Isra
