“Lebanon Debate”
On Thursday, Ali Hamie, Minister of Public Works & Transport in the caretaker government, convened with representatives from syndicates of taxi owners and workers within Lebanon's transportation sector to announce new service fees.
In this context, the Head of Land Transport Unions, Bassam Tleis confirmed to “Lebanon debate’ that the Public Works minister Ali Hamiye has signed the new taxi fees decision today and a list has been issued to announce the updated numbers.”
Tleis revealed that the new “service” fee is 150,000 Lebanese pounds, and the Van fee is set at 75,000 Lebanese pounds. Hence the new fees are rather logical and fair for both driver and citizen.”
He clarified that the new regulations will be implemented starting today, and security forces units will be involved in punishing those who violate the regulations according to the laws governing the protection of the transportation sector.
Tleis added: “In 3 months’ time, these fees will be reviewed. Any adjustments, whether increases or decreases, will be considered based on the data related to these prices before any changes are made.”
