US Proposal: Words Without Actions

placeholder

“Lebanon Debate”

Amid mounting Western pressure, especially coming from the United States, to conclude an agreement in Gaza in order to end the war, release the prisoners and opening of crossings, field data suggests that the situation could either stabilize or see a continuation of Israeli military actions against Gaza. Despite information circulating regarding the international consensus to achieve a breakthrough in talks between Israel and Hamas through mediators, the outcome remains uncertain.

Based on the abovementioned, the spokesman for Hamas in Beirut, Walid al-Kilani believes that it is still too early to draw conclusions or expectations with regard to the conditions of the negotiations. He suggests that it is too early to determine whether the conditions set forth in the negotiations genuinely aim to achieve an agreement.

Responding to Lebanon Debate’s question regarding the Qatar stance that reflects positive progress in negotiations, he clarified that things were still on the lookout and no decision had been made so far.

Kilani reveals that phone calls are occurring, but he emphasizes that “they do not amount to serious negotiations.”

Regarding the US proposal and its potential for forming the basis of serious agreement, as adhered to by Hamas, Kilani considers that it "needs assurances". The spokesperson explains that the US proposal is "just words", because its essence shall lie in implementations, not declarations. Notably, the militant group will not agree to an agreement that does not ensure a permanent ceasefire.
