“Lebanon Debate”
Around a month ago, studies revealed a scandal that affects the most vulnerable category in Lebanon: Children.
The studies showed that some baby products contained in every 100 grams, 80% of saturated fat that contained 45% of hydrogenated oils, along with added sugars exceeding 5% in baby milk for 1- and 3-year-olds.
Through “Lebanon Debate”, pharmacy Syndicate head Joe Salloum, urged the Ministry of Health to disclose the names of substandard milk brands so that pharmacies could cease selling and importing them.
However, it appears that the concerned authorities are not prioritizing the safety of children, as the ministry has yet to disclose the names of the brands endangering them.
In this context, Salloum expressed in an interview with “Lebanon Debate” that Lebanon is witnessing a complete blackout in terms of health security, which he finds unacceptable.
He also questioned, “How is it possible that the syndicate has not received any information from the ministry or relevant authorities regarding the milk, whether for adults or children?"
The head of the syndicate affirmed, "We cannot issue any announcements to prohibit pharmacies from selling milk since we do not have any information about the names of the substandard brands."
