In the context of efforts by certain political parties to form parliamentary blocs, Gebran Bassil, leader of the Free Patriotic Movement (FPM), met with the National Moderation Bloc to explore the possibility of reaching a solution to remove obstacles hindering presidential elections.
MP Sajih Attieh, member of the national moderation bloc, confirmed through an interview with “Lebanon Debate”: “All of the local initiatives are similar to the one launched by our bloc, aiming to move the presidential file out of the deadlock.”
He further added: “The initiatives launched at this stage aim to create a central bloc between the National Moderation, Democratic Gathering, and Strong Lebanon. This new bloc will be present a stronger force against parliamentary blocs refusing the Consultative Meeting.”
The MP stressed: “We welcome all of the efforts that will be exerted and we want these initiatives to complement each other. Our goal is to cooperate in unifying our efforts and to overcome the obstacles surrounding who will call for dialogue and who will head it.”
Attieh sees no concrete progress as long as initiatives remain tied to the war in Gaza, dependent on two options: either a truce or an end to the war.
He concluded: “We are waiting for the fog to lift from the current situation. MP Gebran Bassil will hold a meeting today to discuss the results of his meeting with parliamentary blocs, in addition to the conference planned by the leader of the Progressive Socialist Party, MP Taymour Jumblatt in the upcoming days. Based on these factors, we will determine our next steps."
