Presidential File Trapped in a Vicious Cycle

placeholder

“Lebanon Debate”

The local and international initiatives have failed to make concrete progress in resolving the presidential vacuum, indicating a lack of serious intent to end it anytime soon, especially since the condition necessary to conclude any dialogue or discussion remain unavailable.

In this context, MP Bilal Houshaymi stated in an interview with “Lebanon debate”: “All presidential initiatives are trapped in a vicious cycle, in a state of action without fruition. Several initiatives that were launched before failed due to the adamant adherence of the Shiite duo to their conditions."

The MP confirmed that the opposition attempted to engage positively in the presidential file by withdrawing Michel Moawad's candidacy and agreeing to nominate former minister Jihad Azour. However, the other side insists on Sleiman Frangieh or no one else.

He also emphasized that any initiative must align with Hezbollah's plans and its preferred candidate description. Many initiatives failed because the Shiite duo had no intention of electing anyone other than their chosen candidate.

Houshaymi stressed that Hezbollah must withdraw Frangieh's candidacy or the vacuum will persist. He emphasized that pursuing such goals would only lead to the country's destruction, which is unacceptable.

The MP concluded that Lebanon’s stability and the region’s future are in the palm of Iran. Therefore, if anyone wants to know what will happen to Lebanon, they need to know first what are Iran’s plans for Lebanon.
