“Lebanon Debate”
Illegal internet phenomenon is one of the most important files in Lebanon, at a time where Ogero is continuing its campaign to treat the issue of illegal internet networks that are spreading in Lebanese regions like wildfire, however many questions are being asked on the means to stop these networks.
In this context, minister of telecommunication in the caretaker government Johnny Corm explained to “Lebanon debate”: “The networks violate the laws and are in fact an old phenomenon. Since we started our work in the ministry of telecommunication, treating the phenomenon has been a top priority as we issued decree 9458 on 24/6/2022, outlining a comprehensive plan.”
Corm confirmed: “A mechanism to implement this plan according to decision 544 was adopted in addition to fines that will be imposed and to the statistics compiled by the ministry regarding illegal distributors.”
Currently, 500 out of 1000 distributors and 600,000 subscribers out of 800,000 are being followed up with. In addition to 100 distributors who requested the registration of their companies with the ministry.
He also added: “The ministry is constantly trying to implement measures according to section 4 of decree 9458 and to activate services for companies and subscribers in accordance with relevant decrees and regulations.”
All of these efforts are being made in collaboration with Ogero, security agencies, and monitoring bodies.
