A company takes control of a vital facility!

“Lebanon Debate"

Only in Lebanon would you see a company taking control over a vital public facility. It is taking control of the management of the facility without facing any deterrents and showing any consideration for the welfare of citizens, even with the possibility of the government and judicial bodies holding it accountable.

After the company of Inkript closed the electronic system under the pretext of dues to it from the state, the same authority then reinstated the company to manage the public facility. This decision only fueled its defiance further, as it continues to neglect its obligation to issue market books within the agreed-upon timeframe outlined in its contract with the state.

Thousands of citizens have applied to obtain or renew their driver’s license, but many have not received a receipt confirming their application. For those approaching 18 years old, they will have to wait an additional two months to potentially receive documentation indicating they passed their driving test. Therefore, the young generation will continue to drive their cars without a valid driving license, putting the lives of their fellow citizens in danger.

Since its return to operation eight months ago, the company has persistently refrained from issuing driving licenses, despite being under the scrutiny of political, judicial, and security authorities. These authorities have struggled to assert control over a company led by the son of a former MP, allowing it to exert significant influence over the country.

What added fuel to the fire was the strike held by Traffic Authority employees. This strike has led to further disruptions, particularly as hundreds of cars and motorcycles are being impounded in accordance with a security plan initiated by the Ministry of Interior. This imposed additional pressure on the Traffic Management Authority to address the issue of those whose vehicles have been impounded.

Khaled Abou Faraj, the owner of a driving office, clarified in an interview with "Lebanon Debate" that despite the strike of Traffic Authority employees, the Traffic Management Authority in Beirut is not closed. The Dekwaneh branch remains operational as it is being managed by security forces. However, he noted that branches in other regions are closed due to the ongoing strike.

Abou Faraj stated that the strike is expected to last about a week, in line with the deadline set by the employees to meet their demands. He emphasized that the closure of branches leads to decreased productivity and hinders the interests of some Lebanese.

Regarding the driver’s license, Abou Faraj mentioned that the Minister of Interior confirmed that driving exams will resume after two months. However, he highlighted an issue with the renewal process, stating that while applicants receive a receipt booklet, the actual card is not available due to Inkript's failure to issue biometric licenses, despite citizens paying for renewal applications.
