“Lebanon Debate”
The Free Patriotic Movement is set to launch its presidential initiative next week. It will target parliamentary blocs and party leaders in an attempt to find a way out of the presidential file and call for discussions and consultations.
Member of the “Strong Lebanon” bloc, MP Ghassan Atallah, confirmed in his discussion with Lebanon Debate that “the primary motive behind this initiative is to find a solution for the presidential vacuum killing this country amid the dangerous circumstances it is facing and major events in the region that are developing rapidly.”
Atallah clarifies that “the FPM supports every effort put forth to expedite the presidential elections. It is within our responsibility to always engage in discussions and seek common ground. However, it is important to note that other political powers shall be aware of the urgent need to elect a president.
Regarding the initiative of the Progressive Socialist Party, Atallah comments, “We bless and support all efforts towards resolving the presidential file. We find common ground with the initiative of this party. We hope that all other parties will adopt a flexible approach to address pending issues and achieve our desired objectives which include filling the presidential vacuum."
He emphasized the importance of adapting to circumstances and making concerted efforts to achieve desired outcomes. He stated, "We are open to dialogue and cooperation, recognizing that the key to success lies in consensus-building to elect a president and rebuild state institutions."
Atallah revealed that the FPM's upcoming initiative will involve engaging with all parties, parliamentary blocs, politicians, as well as spiritual and religious figures. The objective is to immerse them in the prevailing atmosphere that concerns us."
