Gaza War: Resignations and American Involvement

"Lebanon Debate"

After the resignation of two ministers from the Israeli war cabinet, Bene Gants and Gadi Eisenkot, along with their call for early elections as soon as possible, all attention is now focused on the future of the conflict in Gaza and the prospects for a political settlement.

In this context, Mahmoud Taha, responsible for media relations in Hamas, explained to "Lebanon Debate" that the resignations from the war cabinet are a positive development and were expected after eight months of conflict in Gaza without any tangible results to ease internal tensions within Israel. Taha also added that internal disputes are likely to increase, with further resignations anticipated.

This situation is a clear reflection of the internal strife among Israeli politicians and the failure of the Israeli army as the conflict enters its ninth month. When asked about the impact of the resignations on the war and negotiations, Taha doubted that these events would accelerate negotiations but suggested there could be increased demands for the release of hostages. This, in turn, could benefit Gaza and the Palestinian cause, especially given Israel's clear inability to achieve its objectives.

Opposition to Netanyahu and his government is also growing daily, which may force Israel and Netanyahu to yield to internal pressures.

However, when asked if Israel's recent release of four prisoners from Gaza can be seen as a concession made to Netanyahu by the Americans to improve his image in exchange for accepting the American open-fire proposal, Taha dismissed this possibility. He asserted that America is complicit in Israel's actions, since it provides it with weapons and support, as seen in the the recent Nuseirat camp massacre, in which he claimed America was involved.

Taha also mentioned America's admission of providing secret information to Israel, suggesting that the Nuseirat operation couldn't have happened without American involvement. From this perspective, America is seen as a crucial partner in the genocide of the Palestinian people.

Taha argued that if the US genuinely desired a ceasefire, they could have pressured Netanyahu and his government from the beginning. However, he believes the American government has its own interests, including ending Hamas and the resistance in Gaza, hence the delay in ceasefire efforts.

Taha concluded that the Nuseirat camp operation revealed the true intentions of the American government, especially in building the pier, which he believes was made to benefit Israel rather than provide aid to Gaza.
