Gemayel Refuses to Engage with Bassil

Leader of the Free Patriotic Movement, Gebran Bassil, began promoting his initiative and presented it to Berri and the opposition.
However, the notable absence of Nadim Gemayel from the meeting with the Kataeb Party raised eyebrows, amid rumors that he adamantly refused to meet with Bassil.

MP Gemeyal revealed in an interview with “Lebanon Debate” that he didn’t participate in the meeting because he is interested in granting importance to someone who disregarded or downplayed the presidential file.

Gemayel denied any assumptions of discord with Kataeb Party leader Sami Gemayel or the party itself but expressed opposition to granting Bassil an opportunity to clean his image.

He also confirmed that in all subsequent meetings, including the one with the Progressive Socialist Party.

When asked about the various initiatives, Gemayel considers them all similar and lacking seriousness. He also added: “It is clear to everyone that this is not how a president should be elected, and we all know how a president is usually elected in Lebanon and this is simply not it."

He also described all of the initiatives as a theatrical show, with every political party trying to salvage itself without genuine intentions to elect a president.
