Not a Government but a Liberation Movement

“Lebanon Debate”

Following the Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, all eyes are on the outcomes of this decision, especially given its American initiative.

Has the United States finally begun to tighten the screws on Israel amid this shift, where Israel is now perceived as being synonymous with Nazis? And how will this resolution manifest in reality?

In this context, Hamas's media coordinator in Lebanon, Walid Al Kilani, explained in an interview with “Lebanon Debate” that Hamas has welcomed the UNSC resolution, albeit with some reservations.

Al Kilani clarified: “Hamas is ready and has agreed to the resolution, on the condition that it includes a ceasefire and the withdrawal of the Israeli enemy from Gaza, along with the return of displaced individuals and a genuine hostage exchange deal."
He also added that Hamas is prepared to collaborate with mediators to begin indirect negotiations to implement these points and principles, which are in line with the interests of the Palestinian people and their resistance.

When asked about Israel's non-compliance with UNSC resolutions and who will pressure the Israeli government to adopt and implement them, Al Kilani asserted: "The Zionist enemy will find itself with no choice but to comply with the resolutions due to our resistance. It has been around 8 months, and until now, the enemy has not been able to achieve any of the goals it had set."

He also confirmed: “The operations Hamas is launching in the Gaza Strip are the strongest evidence that the resistance is alive and well, continuously renewing its leadership and reforming its ranks, more capable than ever, with nothing to lose as destruction has already occurred, and many lives have been lost. The Palestinian people have nothing to lose.”

Al Kilani also emphasized that Hamas is not a government but a national liberation movement. He added: "The moral of the story today is through actions, not words. If the enemy commits to the resolution, so will the movement.”

He also indicated: “The enemy still has many goals to accomplish. Everyone knows that if a ceasefire is reached, Netanyahu is heading to trial, as he has many enemies within his own country as well. He is currently living in a state of chaos, as we recently saw through the resignation in the Israeli war cabinet."

Al Kilani also discussed the dominance of the right-wing extremists in the political scene in Israel, as well as its rise in Europe, noting that all these factors will change the current equation.

He concluded, "There is indeed progress within the American attempt to negotiate with Hamas over the American hostages. After growing desperate with Israel, they decided to start negotiations on their own. The change in the State Department's speech, led by Anthony Blinken, is proof of this change. Blinken used to adopt a 'post-Hamas' stance, but now he says 'they are waiting for Hamas, which is hindering negotiations.' In other words, Blinken is admitting that Hamas is still in power, clarifying that the resistance has more cards to play."
