“Lebanon Debate”
There is no doubt that Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah's recent speech marked the strongest rhetoric since the beginning of the confrontation on the southern front on October 8th, a sentiment even acknowledged by Israel. In his speech, Nasrallah raised the volume of threats and confirmed the resistance’s readiness for a bigger battle.
In this context, journalist and political author Kassem Kassir, described in an interview with “Lebanon Debate” Nasrallah s speech as deterrent, as Nasrallah confirmed that if the Israeli enemy decides to launch any war on Lebanon, the resistance is fully prepared.
The author considered the goal of the dialogue and escalation is to send a message to the Israeli enemy: to seriously reconsider any large-scale military operations in Lebanon.
He also noted that this was a response to what US envoy Amos Hochstein visit included of Israeli threats.
Kassir reiterated that the deterrent nature of Nasrallah's speech aims to restrain Israel from expanding its military operations in Lebanon, particularly since Hezbollah intends to maintain the current status quo on the southern front while the conflict in Gaza persists.
He emphasized that this strong deterrent speech is a direct answer to Hochstein's visit and underscores the American messages indicating Israel's preparations for a larger-scale operation in Lebanon.
Regarding the effectiveness of Nasrallah's speech as a deterrent and the possibility of a larger-scale war, Kassir commented: "I believe the speech will compel Israel to carefully reconsider any military operation against Lebanon."
He acknowledged that skirmishes on the southern front will likely continue but raised the question of whether they could escalate into a full-scale war.
Kassir highlighted that the current environment suggests escalation, especially if the conflict in Gaza persists, which will increase fears of broader hostilities in Lebanon.
