Despite the Dangerous Situation We Shall Remain Prudent

Despite the latest initiatives to address the presidential vacuum, the road towards elections remains impassable. The desired destination will be hard to reach due to the lack of preparations for consultations or discussions.

In an interview with Lebanon Debate, MP and member of the National Moderation Bloc, Walid al-Baarini, confirmed that “the bloc's initiative will serve as the solid foundation for resolving the presidential file, although certain aspects are still underdeveloped at this time. Therefore, we are constantly striving to refine our proposal and make amendments to facilitate progress, which is our current focus."

Regarding the efforts of the Progressive Socialist Party (PSP) and the Free Patriotic Movement (FPM), he stated, "Expanding the number of initiatives, even with diverse backgrounds and goals, is beneficial. We endorse and support these endeavors, particularly as our meetings with both parties have been generally positive. However, the ultimate priority remains achieving results."

Concerning the tours of the leader of the FPM, Gebran Bassil, who is expected to visit Akkar next week, al-Baarini believes that “it is within the rights of each Lebanese citizen or political figure to pay a visit to this region. In terms of the reception size, it depends on how responsive the people of the region are to the personal proposals presented during visits."

In conclusion, al-Baarini warns of the security situation, saying: "During the past weeks, we have repeatedly warned of security lawlessness and called on everyone to be prudent. We called upon the security and military agencies to play their role despite the injustice against their members and despite the difficulty of the situation. Today, our bet remains on them to control the situation."
