Telegraph Rumors: A Response to the Threat of Cyprus

placeholder

"Lebanon Debate"

In a primary diplomatic reading, the absence of the US and British ambassadors from the tour at Beirut Rafic Hariri Airport is attributed to reasons related to their diplomatic schedules and prior commitments. However, the actual reasons are subject to political interpretation, both internally and externally, particularly regarding any security concerns in Lebanon.

Despite the rapid decision to conduct the tour following a Telegraph article alleging Hezbollah weapon storage at the airport, it was confirmed that no missiles or explosives were found. Media leaks, which the caretaker government is struggling to manage, do not seem isolated from the Cyprus threat crisis.

The government is working on containing and diffusing any tensions on the domestic scene, maintaining Lebanese unity, crucial for stability with a skyrocketing launch of the tourist season in the horizons.

Diplomatic circles do not isolate the leaks of "Telegraph", that were repeated and confirmed by the British newspaper, despite the official Lebanese objection, from the ongoing war on the southern front. These rumors have turned into part of the battle between Lebanon and Israel, in terms of targeting the airport.

The circles confirmed to “Lebanon Debate” that if these rumors were to be true, the implications of the article would not only affect Hezbollah but Lebanon as a whole. They also added that the authorities have to diligently deal with these leaks, and to take serious action beyond superficial measures.

From this standpoint, the sources are urging the Lebanese authorities to work fast to reveal the source of the leaks and to hold it accountable and to punish all those who are spreading and promoting these information.

It is not necessary for the telegraph article labeled as 'a story' by diplomatic circles, to be a response to Hezbollah "threat" to Cyprus. And the measures that were recently taken by the government due to this article are measures that must always be taken as the Lebanese state must carry out its duties with an without any rumors.
