“Lebanon Debate”

The repercussions of the assassination of a Palestinian National Security Forces member continue to unfold. Yassin Akl was shot in Ein el-Hilweh by a young man, reportedly an ISIS ideologue and the son of Jamal Hamad, a member of the Farah movement.

On Monday at midnight, Ein el-Hilweh witnessed a gunfire incident and a bomb thrown by relatives of the murdered.

Today, an atmosphere of anticipation pervades the camp following a meeting convened by the political leadership of national and Islamic forces in the Sidon region at the hall of Al-Nour Mosque. The decision to hand over the suspect was reached after phone calls with both the deceased and the perpetrator’s families, within a specified timeframe.

Amid cautious anticipation, certain roads remain closed, and sporadic gunfire by the deceased's supporters continues. Shops in tensed streets remain closed.

Lebanon Debate has learned that the deceased's supporters and family have given the perpetrator's family until sunset today to surrender him. They will not accept past incidents regarding justice for the Serhal killing. They insisted on compliance with the agreed-upon deadline.

Efforts are underway to calm down tensions, particularly as the southern region and Gaza endure heightened conflict stages. All parties recognize that escalation would not benefit anyone in the camps.

Amidst this atmosphere, Israeli aircraft just breached the sound barrier over Sidon, causing widespread panic among residents who feared it signaled renewed clashes in the Ein el-Hilweh camp.
