The National Rally of the extreme right and its allies have surged ahead of other parties in the preliminary results of the early parliamentary elections in France, receiving more than 34% of the votes based on initial estimates.
The extreme right has surpassed the New Popular Front, which received between 28.5% and 29.1% of the votes, while President Emmanuel Macron’s party garnered around 20.5% to 21.5% of the votes.
According to estimates from three centers, the National Rally could secure the largest share of votes in the National Assembly and possibly achieve an absolute majority.
Macron called for unity against the extreme right and urged voters to prevent their rise to power.
Meanwhile, leader of the extreme right, Marine Le Pen, announced that they are leading and have defeated Macron’s camp.
