Al Halabi confirms: we have a united criteria to deport the Syrians

Minister of education in the caretaker government Abbas al Halabi indicated: “The government decided to form a committee, tasked with getting in touch with the Syrian government. The committee is composed of select ministers, headed by the deputy of the PM Saadeh Al Shami. The members will be determined by the cabinet in its next session.”

In an interview with “Al Joumhouria” Halabi added: “We now have a united criteria to deport the officially unregistered displaced persons, those without legitimate residence permits, those present for economic reasons, and those convicted of various crimes. However, it is certain that the government cannot deport 1 million Syrian from the get-go, and no one thinks we can do that, but we are trying to reduce their illegal presence as much as we can.”

Al Halabi concluded: “Lebanon has its own sovereign political decision, and we will implement it. We do not need a European or non-European permission to execute this decision. The measures that were put in place by the government and the concerned authorities will persist.”
