The progressive socialist party seeks common ground!

French envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian urged the head of the Progressive Socialist Party, Walid Jumblatt to take action as a mediator between the various Lebanese parties amidst the failure of all initiatives and internal and external endeavors that have been met with a dead end.
The populist party will commence its meetings with Hezbollah, followed by the Lebanese Forces. What groundbreaking proposals could emerge from these discussions? Will their endeavors find a common ground as hoped by the French envoy?

Progressive socialist party sources confirmed that the tour is a continuation of the one that started in 2022, even before the presidential vacuum.

They assert that the purpose of these visits is to find common ground among all Lebanese parties to resolve the presidential vacuum amidst the current challenges and difficulties, which could worsen if the status quo persists.

According to the sources, the visits complement all previous efforts, including the quintet and the French envoy’s meetings, in addition to the internal endeavors of the socialist party, aimed at finding common ground.
They also hope that all concerned parties will assume their responsibilities, as the country urgently requires the highest levels of responsibility amidst ongoing events, including those in the south and the economic crisis, among others.

The sources stressed the primary focus today is to explore ways to reach an agreement, whether through discussion or negotiation, to resolve the presidential vacuum in accordance with the Taef Agreement and the constitution.

Regarding the Lebanese Forces' meeting with the populist delegation today, the sources confirm that Jumblatt aims to act as the mediator. They also suggest that, following the failure of the moderation initiative, Le Drian encouraged Jumblatt to initiate a similar effort. However, the sources doubt the success of this initiative, as its measures closely resemble those of the failed initiative.

The sources clarify that while the leaders of the Lebanese Forces will listen to the populist party's proposals, they already believe that today's discussions violate the constitution.
