On Thursday, Australia urged its citizens in Lebanon to leave immediately, citing a "real risk of dangerously escalating tensions between Israel and Hezeb."
In a video posted on the social media platform "X" late Wednesday, Foreign Minister Penny Wong said, "Now is the time to leave; the security situation could deteriorate rapidly, possibly without warning."
Wong added that "Beirut airport could close completely if the situation worsens, potentially stranding those who wish to leave for an extended period," and urged Australians to use available commercial flights.
The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs’ website indicates that around 15,000 Australians reside in Lebanon, with the number rising into the thousands during the summer months from June to December.
This warning from the Australian Foreign Minister follows a similar advisory from the United Kingdom on Monday, which advised British nationals to leave Lebanon and avoid traveling there amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to contain any escalation between Israel and Hezeb.
British Foreign Minister David Lammy posted on "X": "We advise British nationals to leave Lebanon and not to travel there. The situation is changing rapidly."
Germany has also urged its citizens to leave Lebanon "urgently" due to the increasing tensions between Israel and Hezeb.
